2014 corvette car and driver

Former Corvette Racing driver and motorsports icon Ron Fellows recently had the pleasure of being inducted into Corvette’s Hall of Fame. And as if that wasn’t a big enough honor for Fellows, he was also presented with this wicked 2012 Corvette Z06 at the National Corvette Museum’s 17th Annual Labor Day celebration. This particular Chevy Corvette has been dubbed the SEMA/Spring Mountain Special Edition and chances are we’ll be seeing it in action at the Ron Fellows Performance Driving School right outside Las Vegas at Spring Mountain Raceway – not to mention at the upcoming SEMA Show in November.

The special edition 2012 Z06 features a carbon fiber hood and full-body racing stripes. On all four corners are black wheels with a red stripe, borrowed from the Centennial Edition, while the interior features embroidered seats with “100 Years” on them. Displayed prominently on the side of the car is Ron Fellows’ #3 racing number which is complemented by graphics stating “Hall of Fame”. In the rear, the Vette has graphics from Mosport Raceway, which Ron co-owns, plus logos from his own driving school.

Nissan Leaf – Zero Emissions Green Car

The release of the Nissan Leaf has a lot of people really exited in the auto industry and the consumer community as well. This will be the first 100% electric vehicle to hit the United States consumer market. There are others out there that you can buy, but the Nissan Leaf is the first to go mainstream. with a bold look and hot price and no more tailpipes, we think this is one sweet “Leaf”!

The Nissan Leaf will be sure to make some waves in 2010. It will be using some technology provided by Toyota to make this car the latest and greatest in electric automotive technology. There isn’t a hidden gas engine in the Nissan Leaf it’s all battery baby! The heavy duty power cells that power this new car can be charged on a standard electrical plug but for a faster charge you can use a quick charger which does require a little more juice than normal. Nissan says that the car can get 80% charge in about 30 minutes on the quick charger. Getting around a hundred miles per charge and a top speed just under ninety miles per hour this may be the breakthrough electric car of 2010.

We expect there to be many more zero emissions cars to come out int he next few years. If the Nissan Leaf is successful in the US market this year then the competition will go through the roof for sure. This will be a win win for the consumer and will most likely only drive the price of electric cars down and give us many more options when it comes to buying.

Ferrari 458 Challenge Car Tuning
Ferrari 458 Challenge Car Tuning

The 458 Challenge boasts a host of upgrades over its road-legal sibling to make it race worthy when it hits the grid in Ferrari’s one-make race series from 2011. The Ferrari 458 Challenge will make world premiere at the 35th edition of the Bologna Motor Show in Italy, which runs for the public from December 4 to 12.

Ferrari is also displaying a variety of other racing models from the past and present at its Bologna Motor Show stand, including a 430 GTC owned by the AF Corse team Ferrari and an F1 model.
Ferrari’s engineers have made modifications to the gear ratios and calibration of its dual-clutch F1 gearbox to further improve torque at lower revs. While the Challenge keeps the 458 Italia’s direct injection 4.5-liter V8 with an output of 570 hp at 9,000 rpm intact.

The Ferrari 458 Challenge is equipped with the E-Diff electronic differential already employed on the road-going version, a first for Ferrari’s track-only cars. Another first for a Ferrari Challenge model is the adoption of the firm’s F1-Trac traction control system. The race-spec model also gets a specific suspension set-up with steel uniball joints, stiffer springs, single-rate alloy dampers and a ride height lowered by 50mm all round.
Stopping power is provided by the new generation Brembo CCM2 brakes integrated with the latest ABS system which debuted on the 599XX, Ferrari’s experimental laboratory car, while it rides on centre-nut 19-inch forged rims wrapped in larger dimension Pirelli slicks.
Result of combined is the improvement of the car’s lap time at Fiorano by two seconds over that of its predecessor, resulting in a new record of just 1’16.5”. According to the Italian company, the amount of lateral grip the new car generates is 1.6G. Read also about this car’s detail at previous post..

Corvette history revealed in Alpha and Beta C5s

AlphaAndBetaGroup_1000
Like their auto show counterparts, engineering test cars usually end up parked in purgatory. Which is to say, squashed. Car companies don’t like to let competitors in on what’s on their minds, so the cars that express it get destroyed in a hurry, usually. It’s uncommon when any of them, particularly Corvette development cars, find their way into open public view.

Yet three have just accomplished exactly that. All of these cars were built by General Motors engineers at various points when the fifth-generation Corvette was undergoing design. That process went back surprisingly far. The black-painted Alpha Build car is one of 14 assembled in 1988 as a basic look at the C5′s shape and layout. The Beta, painted white, was the next phase, fitted with Hydro-formed frame rails and the Gen III small-block V-8. Both are in the collection of Mike Yager and his family, along with the CERV-4b research vehicle, essentially a pre-production C5 within fourth-generation bodywork. All of them were on display this past weekend at the Corvette Funfest, which was held at Mid America Motorworks in Effingham, Illinois.

Mahindra XUV500 bookings cross 6000

Mahindra+XUV500
The latest launch from Mahindra, the XUV500 has already clocked 6000 bookings in just 2 days after its launch. Mahindra has cleverly priced the XUV500 base model at Rs. 10.8 lakh, though it is only the introductory price.

Mahindra XUV500 will compete mainly against Toytoa Fortuner, as intended by the company but we feel the XUV500 has some more enemies. The XUV500 will lock its horns with Force One and soon to be launched facelifted Tata Safari. But comparing the other two models, XUV500 seems to be ahead with them in leaps and bounds.

No wonder the XUV500 has got high bookings. Why would anyone buy a Fortuner if everything it offers is available in XUV500 which is 40% cheaper than the former.
